2011/2012 Volunteer Opportunities

Parents are greatly needed and warmly welcomed!  Please help us help our school.
The Monarch High School PTSO and staff want to connect parent volunteers to a wide variety of positions, events, and organizations to benefit our school.

Weekly Commitments

Assist Monarch staff with vital work at school. Commit to a 2-4 hour shift, weekly or biweekly, or serve as a floater when extra help is needed. Volunteer Coordinators needed in some areas.

Main Office:  Help office staff with phones, mail, filing, and special projects.

Copy Room:  Copy classroom handouts and help manage the copy room.

Library/Media Center:  Greet the many students that use our library, check books in and out, and re-shelve books.  Help with inventory and projects.

Post Graduate Center:  Support students as they plan for their futures.  Help update scholarship opportunities, input information into Naviance, greet college reps, and assist with special projects.

Health Room:  Assist with first aid or help with health records and paperwork.  First-aid training is provided by the district.  One to three-hour shifts.

Greeters Program:  Welcome visitors to the school.  Direct visitors to their destination, answer questions, and create a friendly, approachable, and safe school environment.

The Forum:  Supervise and assist students in this study area.  Students might be working on a project or paper, making up a missed test or quiz, or looking for help with homework.  Computers, textbooks, and reference material are available.

MHS Website support:  Help teachers with the MHS website using Sharepoint, Tuesdays 7:30-8:25 a.m.

On-Going Groups

Many parent organizations support our school. Most hold monthly meetings. There are also groups to support some of our teams, including football, baseball, lacrosse, and softball. The Volunteer Agreement is not required for parent meetings.

Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) connects parents, teachers, and students to enhance the learning environment through volunteer and financial support.  Find more information here on the PTSO website (www.monarchptso.org).

MHS Booster Club is a fundraising group that works to support and enhance student organizations, athletics and activities.  Periodic events.

Music Boosters support the band, orchestra, and choir programs.

Communication Ambassadors provide marketing, PR, communication, and website expertise for the School, regular meetings and working groups.

School Accountability Committee (SAC) is composed of teachers, school administrators and parents.  Provides input on the School Improvement Plan - formerly known as SIT.

Parent Engagement Network (PEN) is a team of parents that sponsors gatherings that address the needs of parents and families in the school community.  PEN collaborates with the school district and a variety of community organizations.

Community After-Prom Parents Association (CAPPA) hosts Monarch and Centaurus students after prom, midnight-4:00 a.m. Volunteers plan, execute, and solicit donations for the event.

Occasional & One-Time Activities

Back-to-school check-in: Help with registration.  Morning and afternoon shifts, August 4-5.

Process textbooks and/or registration forms in August and early September.

Vision & hearing screening: Dates TBD.

MoHi 360 Parent Leaders welcome parents of incoming freshman to the school, answer their questions, and direct them to available resources.  Participate in orientation night the week of August 9.  Training provided.

Help with school or office projects, such as library inventory, major mailings, or hanging student artwork in the hallway.

Help with teacher projects:  Share pictures for the yearbook, judge the science symposium, talk to students about a relevant topic, or share a talent.

Refreshments:  Help supply refreshments for a school event, such as conferences, CSAP, or teacher appreciation.  Coordinators needed.  The Volunteer Agreement is not required to donate food.

Dance Chaperone for Club Mo, Homecoming or Winter Ball. Help staff the coat check or supervise the front entrance, hallways, or dance area.  Short shifts.

End-of-Year Barbeque: Parents grill, roam the grounds, and handle check-in.  Short shifts.

After-Prom prep, chaperone, or cleanup

Senior Barbeque (May) Provide food or cook.

Career Day: The PTSO is working with the Administration and Counseling Department to establish Career Day.  If you are interested in being a presenter, please let us know.
